Drink-driver banned from road

-

A motorist was caught at more than five times the drink-drive limit after residents became suspicious of his dishevelled appearance.

Artur Kowalczyk was found to have 121 mics of alcohol in his system when he was eventually traced by police on September 23. The legal limit is 22.

Perth Sheriff Court heard the 43-year-old had parked his vehicle on Stanley Crescent, Perth, and was seen walking back to it the following day.

Residents reported him to the police after they saw him sitting in the driver’s seat with an open can of alcohol.

He later moved the vehicle to another spot on Muirton Place, where he was traced by officers and found to have a bottle of whisky in the front passenger footwell, as well as three empty cans in the rear.

A check on the vehicle revealed he was also driving without insurance.

Kowalczyk’s solicitor said he was employed at the chicken factory in Coupar Angus but as a result of missing shifts while in custody he was unsure whether he still had a job.

He added that his client accepted he should not have moved the vehicle.

In court yesterday, Kowalczyk, of Ballantine Place, Perth, pled guilty to drinkdriving and failing to have insurance.

Sheriff William Wood imposed 100 hours of unpaid work and banned him from the road for 26 months.
