Youngster ‘saw red’ at sight of his attacker

Teenager assaulted other teen who had left him scarred for life

A teenager took revenge on a schoolboy who left him scarred for life by punching him repeatedly at a concert by The View.

The 16-year-old boy had been left scarred after being stabbed in the face by a rival who was high on a cocktail of drink and drugs.

When the youth saw his rival at the headline concert for Perth Festival of the Arts, he lost his temper and punched him several times.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting and injuring his rival in Perth on May 20 this year.

Sheriff William Wood told the teenager yesterday: “Clearly there are extenuating circumstances here that take this matter out of the normal run of things.

“Somewhat unusually for a charge of this kind, I will defer sentence for a period.”

That sentence was deferred for seven months for the accused to be of good behaviour.

Perth Sheriff Court was told the teenagers had bumped into each other at the concert by the Dundee band.

Solicitor John McLaughlin, defending, said: “The other boy had stabbed him in the head and slashed him in the face twice in October last year.

“On the night in question he saw him, saw red and assaulted him. This was a chance meeting at a concert a number of young people were attending.”

The same court previously heard how the victim in the May 20 incident had stabbed the other boy after drinking more than 30 units of alcohol and two Ecstasy tablets. He was 15 at the time.

Perth Sheriff Court heard how he had drunk half a litre of vodka, taken the tablets and three cans of ultra-strong Dragon Soop before pulling a knife from his waistband and stabbing his victim twice in the face.

The boy had said: “Come outside and I’ll sort you out. Come outside and I’ll slash you.”

The attacker, who attended a city secondary school until being excluded on his arrest, admitted assaulting a 15-year-old boy at an address in Firbank Road, Perth, on October 1 by striking him twice to the face with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The victim was slashed across the bridge of his nose and both nostrils as well as his ear and doctors said the injuries were likely to leave him scarred for life.

Sheriff Foulis said: “It is no surprise you have got no recollection and no control.

“You sourced a knife and hid it in your clothing, which demonstrates a level of planning.”
