Leaking fuel tank causes slippy conditions along Dunkeld Road

A two-mile-long diesel spill led to slippy driving conditions in Perth.

The entire length of Dunkeld Road from Inveralmond Roundabout to St Catherine’s retail park was affected yesterday.

It’s believed the spill was caused by a leak from a faulty vehicle fuel tank.

Many drivers reported experiencing a loss of grip in their vehicles as they drove along the stretch, particularly near the roundabouts at the Triangle and at Asda on Dunkeld Road.

One man said: “Very bad at Asda roundabout – van went sideways going round it”, another wrote: “Someone nearly never got lunch earlier. Deliveroo guy nearly came off his moped”, while another said: “losing traction at the roundabouts and bit sideways action at Asda”.

Despite initial fears the spill would cause traffic chaos, Police Scotland said they had received no calls reporting crashes on the stretch. Traffic continued to flow freely for the duration of the incident.

Perth and Kinross Council spent much of the day cleaning up the aftermath of the spill, spreading sand on the road.

A spokesman said: “Please be advised that the Dunkeld Road, Perth, from Inveralmond Roundabout to St Catherine’s retail park is affected by a serious diesel spillage.

“Motorists are advised to drive with caution at this location.

“Perth and Kinross Council are attending site to deal with the spillage.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed they were called about the spill at around 11.20am but had no reports of any crashes.
