A national campaign designed to encourage thousands of people to cycle on everyday journeys is supporting a programme of cycle rides as part of celebrating the Big Bike Revival project.

Throughout October organised rides will showcase low-traffic routes and give people the chance to see their community differently.

A selection of rides taking place in Perth and Kinross include a mountain bike taster ride in Abernethy, 30, 20 and 10-mile rides in Coupar Angus on October 1 and the Big Bike Revival celebration ride in Perth on October 15.

Grant Murdoch, cycling officer at Coupar Angus Cycle Hub, said: “Autumn is a cracking time of year for a bike ride, and we are looking forward to offering Big Bike Revival-led rides to celebrate our cycling activities over the last few months.

“The Coupar Angus Cycle Hub has been keen to introduce more people to cycling, as it offers so many benefits for individuals and the local community. It’s fun, healthy, quick and cheap, and benefits the area as an environmentally friendly way to get about for short, everyday journeys.”

Shona Morris, project manager, said: “There are a wide range of autumnal rides and activities on offer, from family-friendly jaunts of five miles, to e-bike taster days, to challenging routes with hills and distance.”
