Treat for young percussionists
Talented youngsters from across Perth and Kinross are gearing up for a special performance for one of the world’s most famous percussionists.
The region’s Schools Percussion Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Evelyn Glennie in Conversation evening at Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday.
The invitation came from the Perthshire Society of Natural Science who are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their founding in 2017, with Dame Evelyn’s talk being the first in a series organised by the society to mark this milestone.
The Ensemble is one of the more recently-formed Perth and Kinross Central groups, established in 2014.
In this short time, the group has performed many times at Perth Concert Hall, and last year it was invited to play at a tapestry education conference in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.
Lifelong learning convener, Councillor Caroline Shiers said: “This is a fantastic once-in-alifetime opportunity for our young musicians to perform at such a prestigious event.
“Not only will they get a unique chance to perform as part of Dame Evelyn’s evening, but they will also be able to take part in a question and answer session.
“We are very grateful to the Perthshire Society of Natural Science for this extremely special opportunity for the Ensemble.”
