A90 roadworks postponed

-

A bad weather forecast has delayed essential roadworks on a busy Perthshire commuter route.

Planned improvements to the A90 Barnhill to Glencarse stretch were due to get under way at the weekend.

However, Bear Scotland decided to stall the £380,000 job after warnings of high winds and heavy rain. A new date for the work has not been set.

Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s North East representative, said: “Heavy rain and high winds such as those forecast from Sunday can have a significant impact on road materials during surfacing and lining operations such as those planned at Barnhill and, although the weather is outwith our control, we’ve taken the decision to postpone these road improvements.

“Once a new date has been confirmed later in the year all stakeholders will be updated with the new programme.”

Mr Thompson added: “As there are yellow weather warnings in place from Sunday, we have encouraged road users to take extra care if out on routes and to always drive to conditions.”

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for high winds and heavy rains across central Scotland yesterday morning. An additional yellow warning is also in place across the whole of Scotland for high winds throughout today.

The work will involve a contraflow system and the closure of the Kinfauns Castle junction.
