Perthshire dominates shortlist at annual Thistle Awards

-

A Perthshire tourism attraction has been nominated for a top award less than 12 months after opening.

The Pitlochry Dam visitor centre, which welcomed its first tourists in February, is up against the Scottish Crannog Centre and the Black Watch Museum in the contest to be crowned the Best Heritage Tourism Experience at the Scottish Thistle Awards.

A total of 24 businesses, individuals and events in Perth and Kinross have made it through to the regional finals. Winners will be announced in Edinburgh on November 23.

The competition recognises hotels, restaurants, B&Bs, visitor attractions and individuals who go the extra mile to provide customers with exceptional service.

Other finalists include Ballintaggart Farm, Moor of Rannoch, the Enchanted Forest, Blair Castle International Horse Trials, Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery and Nae Limits in Pitlochry.

Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, said: “Perth and Kinross is renowned for its sterling tourism offering and with 24 shortlisted finalists, it’s clear the region is leading the charge when it comes to excellence.

“Tourism is more than a holiday experience, it creates jobs and sustains communities. The Scottish Thistle Awards is a chance for us to celebrate those who work tirelessly to ensure that all visitors, whether from Scotland or further afield, enjoy a truly memorable experience.”

Rebecca Brooks, chairwoman of the Scottish Thistle Awards industry panel, said: “From the sheer volume and calibre of entries, it is clear that this year’s competition will be the fiercest yet.”
