Bar fight resulted in surgery

-

A bar-goer left another drinker needing surgery to insert a metal plate in his collar bone after felling him with a single punch.

Patrick Welsh lashed out at Liam O’Donnell following a bar fight which started when he bumped into his victim on the way to the toilet.

Depute fiscal John Malpass told the court: “The accused was going to the toilet when he barged into the complainer. The complainer challenged that and the accused replied: ‘What are you going to do about it?’

“A fight ensued. Bar staff got involved and both men were placed outside. Once outside the fight continued and other persons present intervened to break it up.

“Once both men were back on their feet, the accused punched the complainer, causing him to fall heavily to the ground, predominantly on his right side.

“The complainer was unable to pick himself up due to considerable pain in his right arm and whilst the complainer was on the ground the accused has kicked him.”

Mr O’Donnell was later found to have a serious break to his collarbone.

Welsh, 27, of Sauchie Place, Crieff, admitted assaulting Mr O’Donnell by punching him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground and kicking him on the body at the Pretoria Bar on Crieff High Street on November 26 last year.

Sentence was deferred until next month for reports.
