Carlogie contenders can expect dam on top form

CARLOGIE DAM has been fishing very well recently with fish still fairly high in the water and being caught on dries, buzzers and fritz.

Maximum entries have already been taken for Sunday’s Carlogie Dam Championsh­ip.

Recent catches include: D Johnston (Dundee), kept two fish for 4lb; D McIravey (Dundee), two for 4lb 8oz; B Clark (Dundee), two for 4lb; J Tyrell (Dundee), two, 4lb 8oz; G Smith (Carnoustie), two, 4lb 4oz, P McAndrew (Laurenceki­rk), caught six kept three for 9lb 7oz; D. Wood (Aberdeen), caught 17, kept four for 11lb 8oz.

Catch and returns included: W Clark (Forfar) nine; R Hill (Dundee) five; A Stewart (Dundee) seven; A Phillip (Forfar) six; A Wood (Arbroath) 20+, G Smith (Arbroath) four; F Ferrier (Arbroath) eight; V Wood (Lincoln) four; I Johnston (Arbroath) six; K Lightly (Brechin) six; J Thomson (Dundee) six; B Thomson (Dundee) 11; J Crerar (Arbroath) five; J Duthie (Arbroath) eight; G Woods (Montrose) 20+; S Smith (Brechin) eight; K Smith (Edzell) 12; B Ross (Arbroath) four; J Reid (Kingsmuir) six; J Westland (Arbroath) eight; B Thomson (Arbroath) seven; G Smith (Arbroath) six; N Boath (Tayport) six.

The dam is now on winter hours, 9am-5pm daily.

The weather played a part in returns at MONIKIE and CROMBIE.

Sink tip lines seem to be the order of the day with dawson’s olive, crunchers, cats whiskers and cormorants all taking fish.

Another couple of bigger fish were caught this week with B Paterson of the Aberdour club having a cracker of 4lb 12oz (which won him fish of the month for September) and K Giblin having a nice fish of 4lb 1oz, both off the Island Pond.

Notable North Pond returns included: H Lewis, four fish for 7lb 8oz and returning another three; G Bruce, five, 11lb 5oz; J Gibb, five, 10lb 10oz and returned another four.

Aberdour AC, with 4½ boats on the Island Pond, kept 31 fish for 64lb 6oz.

LEVEN championsh­ip in tough conditions on Sunday with a couple of nice fish.

Gil Farad was second and Duncan Lumsden third.

A raffle raised £235 for the Zak Scott Foundation and Ronald McDonald Scotland.

FRANDY FISHERY is on fine form.

Billy Thomson (Auchterard­er), five for 14lb and released seven; Brian Hepburn and Alex Hamilton (Kelty), three, 8lb 12oz; Bill Ramage (Alva), four for 10lb and released three; Alan Armstrong and Neil Sharp (Dollar), six, 15lb; Hamish Higgins (Perth), two, 5lb, released a further two; Brian and Xin Xin Cameron (Menstrie), eight, 19lb 4oz.

Club catches: St Serf Ladies AC, 11 fish, 23lb 4oz; Farmers & Associates AC, 34, 86lb; IBM Freshwater, 47, 103lb and released six; Wallyford AC kept 12 fish for 23lb 8oz.

Cormorant, cats whisker, sedge muddler, Kate McLaren, hot head damsel and olive sedgehog proved to be the top flies, while the best fishing areas were on the south shore and the dam wall.
