Microwave hurled from window

-

A Crieff man challenged neighbours to call the police after he hurled a microwave from a fourth floor flat.

Residents were already tired of Robert Dummett’s antics, having endured “continuous banging noises” from his flat, Perth Sheriff Court was told.

One witness saw a large object fall from a window and looked out to see a microwave oven smashed on the ground below.

The court heard Dummett then came out into the common close to shout abuse at his neighbours.

He told them: “I did that. Phone the police if you want. I hate you all, I’m going to kill you.”

Dummett added once more for emphasis: “I threw the microwave out the window. “You can go call the police.” At least one of his neighbours took him at his word and officers were soon at his door to arrest him.

Dummett, 57, of West High Street in Crieff, admitted shouting and swearing at neighbours, uttering threats of violence and throwing a microwave oven from his window on to the footpath below.

He said he had since put the incident behind him and was now on good terms with neighbours once again.

The court was told he had suffered from manic depression and had “intermittent contact” with psychiatric services.

After hearing he had stayed out of trouble for 27 years, the sheriff fined him £200.
