Take That star to play series of intimate solo shows with support from St Andrews singer KT Tunstall

Take That star Gary Barlow is coming to play “intimate” solo shows in Dundee and Perth next year.

Organisers have confirmed the former X Factor star will play at Perth Concert Hall on April 19 and Dundee on April 20.

The dates are part of a series of 34 concerts across the UK and Ireland.

Barlow said: “I had such a lot of fun back in 2013 when I played those smaller venues because you’re so much closer to the fans. The audience always seem to love the intimacy of it all too.

“I’m also really looking forward to playing in a couple of cities I’ve never played before as well as getting a chance to meet the fans there.”

The entertainer will be joined on his tour by Fife singer/songwriter KT Tunstall.

The Suddenly I See star, from St Andrews, revealed the news on Twitter, stating: “So looking forward to joining the one and only Gary Barlow on #tour18!! Thanks for having me GB, and see y’all soon!”

Barlow responded on his own Twitter page: “Thrilled to have @KTTunstall join me #tour2018.”

Barlow’s Dundee visit is part of a 24-stop, 34-date tour from April 16 to June 9.

It will come almost two years after he last visited the city – surprising local woman Jill Campbell by appearing at her 30th birthday party at the Apex Hotel.

Barlow turned up in the city after vowing to visit the superfan who most impressed him with a social media campaign.

The Caird Hall is undergoing a renaissance as a popular music venue.

It has recently hosted top acts including Stereophonics, Placebo and Texas.

It is hoped the show could kick off another summer of live music in Dundee.

No acts have yet committed to concerts at Slessor Gardens in 2018 but there was a promise of more to follow UB40, Olly Murs and Little Mix who appeared there this year.

Carnival 56 is also looking to return to Dundee, although a final confirmation has not yet been announced.

The audience always seem to love the intimacy of it all too. GARY BARLOW
