Wood & Cairns

-

“With reference to the article in Tuesday’s Courier about Sinatra’s Bar,” emails Angus Lockhart, “the previous incarnation in the 1960s was Wood & Cairns, an electrical wholesaler.

“I worked there in charge of goods in/ goods out. The front shop was entered from King Street and the rear entrance was in Cowgate, where I worked.

“All the items eg refrigerators, cookers, electric heaters and other electrical goods went out the back door and were delivered by local carriers. There was a message boy who delivered in the town centre by bicycle. Wood & Cairns moved to Blinshall Street for a while before closing.”
