It could be Miller time with all reported to be well in Rangers camp
Boss Caixinha has held ‘clear the air’ talks with veteran striker after he was left out
Kenny Miller could return to the Rangers squad for the Ladbrokes Premiership encounter with St Johnstone tonight after clearing the air with manager Pedro Caixinha.
Miller missed the defeat of Hamilton amid reports of a heated team meeting, but Caixinha insists he is under consideration for the trip to Perth, although the striker had a fitness issue in training on Wednesday.
Centre-backs Bruno Alves and Danny Wilson are fit after calf injuries, while Niko Kranjcar is also back, but Lee Wallace (groin) and Jordan Rossiter (knee) remain out and Ryan Jack is suspended.
Meanwhile, Ibrox boss Caixinha has gone “back to basics” over the international break in a bid to improve his team’s defensive record.
Rangers have scored 17 goals in eight Ladbrokes Premiership games this season, more than any other team other than leaders Celtic, but their goals against column is 11 – five higher than Aberdeen and bigger than both Hearts and Motherwell.
Caixinha has prioritised his back-line ahead of tonight’s visit to McDiarmid Park to face a side that has also conceded 11 goals, and he is more confident after two weeks to work on the area.
The Portuguese coach said: “We were more focused on the details this week because we make the analysis that we cannot concede so many goals and concede goals the way we are conceding them.
“We need to get back to the basics of defending. That’s what we have been focused on. The boys did great the previous week when we trained much more intensively.
“This week we have focused on the principles of what we want and expect from the game. What we expect is: don’t let the opponent play their own game, and we want to play our game.
“After these couple of weeks, I think we are much more solid as a team if we defend better and concede less goals, because the difference of the goals scored is almost nothing from the teams that are leading the league.
“We want to keep going in attack but we want to improve defending, so that’s what we have been working on these two weeks.”
We need to get back to the basics of defending. That’s what we have been focused on. PEDRO CAIXINHA
