King adds to Port squad as side eye fourth straight win

- by Peter Rundo

Tayport hope for a fourth straight Super League win when Whitburn check in at the Canniepairt today.

The Fifers must be rated favourites against opponents who have won just twice in 10 league outings.

Given last week’s well deserved win at Downfield Port manager Charlie King, the former Brechin and Forfar midfielder, is unlikely to show many changes, but includes new signing Martin Strachan – an attacking midfielder from Scone Thistle – in his squad from which Connor Gray is the only absentee.

Heartened by last week’s 5-0 win over Kirrie Thistle, Glenrothes await Tranent’s visit in confident mood.

For the first time this season Glens gaffer Willie Campbell has the same squad available and could possibly have Sean Simpson and Greg Wallace returning after injury.

The trialist who came off the bench last week is again included in the squad.

Familiarity may breed contempt but not in St Andrews’ case after double cup defeats by Arniston Rangers, whom they face for the third time in four weeks.

However, this time they have venue advantage and will be desperate to gain revenge.

Indeed, they are the only games the Lothian side has won this season, while Saints have only lost twice in the league.

A vast improvement on last week’s showing at Glenrothes will be required by Kirrie Thistle at home to Dalkeith Thistle.

Their visitors are just a point behind the hosts and with a game more played, so three points would give them a bit of breathing space between them and the Lothian side.

The hosts are still without long-term casualties Davie Millar and David Geekie.

With no wins in their last four outings, Downfield who are only just above the drop zone, badly need a win from their home game with Bathgate. The Spiders hope to be at full strength.
