Stomach injury sidelines Jackson for six more weeks
Brechin City’s hopes of climbing the Championship table have taken a knock with the news that experienced striker Andy Jackson is unlikely to feature until after Christmas.
The 29 -year-old suffered a stomach muscle injury against Dundee United in August and a comeback attempt last month was ended when the problem flared up for a second time.
The root of the problem has now been discovered after a scan and Jackson has been told to take six weeks off from training.
Manager Darren Dods said: “A small tear has been discovered and that is what has been causing the problem for Andy.
“He needs six weeks resting and after that it will be a few weeks before he is match ready so it will probably be 2018 until we see him again.”
“It is a real shame as in the game against Dundee United he was terrific and showing that he should be playing at this level.
“The one consolation we have is that when Andy missed two months last season he came back in terrific goalscoring form. Hopefully that is what will happen this time out.”
Meanwhile Brechin’s Championship clash away to Inverness CT on Saturday November 11 has been rescheduled for Tuesday November 21 with a 7.45pm kick-off due to the Highland club’s Irn Bru Cup commitments.
● Cowdenbeath’s League 2 meeting with Annan on Saturday December 30 has been brought forward to Saturday November 18 at the request of both clubs.
