Man fled police in drug search

-

A Crieff man caught with class A drugs in Perth city centre tried to run away from police as they searched him.

Peter Alexander was found with a bag of red and yellow pills when he was stopped on South Methven Street last October. Depute fiscal Clare Kennedy told the court the offences happened shortly before midnight.

“Constables detained the accused for a search,” she said.

“During this search a bag containing five yellow pills and six red pills was recovered – this was found to be £33 of ecstasy, a class A drug.

“As police officers attempted to caution him, he ran away towards South Street before turning on to Scott Street.

“He was traced in the South Street car park and was thereafter placed in handcuffs,” she added.

Ms Kennedy said the 19-yearold had replied to the officer’s caution and charge, saying: “Stupidness.”

Alexander, of the Abercairney Estate, Crieff, admitted possessing ecstasy on Perth’s South Methven Street on October 21 last year.

He further admitted obstructing two police officers by running away at the same location and date.

Sheriff William Wood warned him that if he did not change his ways he might be facing custodial sentences in the future.

He ordered Alexander to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and placed him on a 12-month supervision order.
