Residents don’t feel safe after second break-in at village shop.
Shock as Invergowrie store is targeted twice within days
Shocked residents say they no longer feel safe after a village store was targeted for the second time in less than a week.
The latest raid happened in the early hours of yesterday, leaving a large hole smashed in the window of Invergowrie Scotmid.
It comes just days after two males, aged 15 and 21, were charged in connection with an alleged break-in at the same store in the early hours of October 18, along with a series of others across Tayside.
Rona Anderson, 63, who lives just a few doors from the Main Street shop, said she was worried properties in the area could be being targeted.
She said: “I think it’s absolutely awful this has happened again so close to the last one.
“Another property in the street was broken into just a few weeks ago so it really feels like these are all happening in a very short space of time.”
Another local resident, who asked not to be named, said her own property had been broken into in the past.
She added: “I don’t feel safe around here any more. You’d think in a quiet area like this you would be OK but it just keeps happening.
“I really hope they get whoever is responsible.”
The manager of neighbouring Invergowrie post office, Sajid Sharif, said: “We weren’t targeted, thank god.
“We open later so we only heard about it when we came in this morning. It’s very shocking.”
A spokesman for Scotmid declined to comment on whether anything had been taken in the incident but confirmed police had been called.
He added: “Once again, we are supporting officers with their investigation and apologise for any inconvenience experienced by customers.”
Police say they are probing a second break-in at the Invergowrie shop.
