Shorthorn champ achieves 12,000gn

Shorthorn bulls sold to a top of 12,000gn at the Stirling Bull Sales yesterday.

Leading the charge was the overall champion – September 2015 born Grovewood Jackson from Chris Mallaber of Park Farm, Walton Road, Drakelow.

Previously unshown, he is an embryo transfer son of Glenisla Explorer, out of Tamhorn Fireworks. He sold to Kincraigie Farms, Lumphanan.

Next best at 9,000gn was the reserve champion – September 2015-born Chapelton Jacob from Donald Biggar, Grange, Castle Douglas.

By Chapelton Jacob and out of Chapelton Gem, he stood third at the Highland and sold to Grieve, Aberdeensh­ire.

Thereafter Major Gibb achieved 6,500gn selling an April 2016-born entry from his Glenisla herd at Blairgowri­e.

Glenisla Kelpie, by Flight Lieutenant of Upsall and out of Glenisla Foxglove Flake, sold to Aucheneck Estates, Farm Office, Killearn.

In the female section a top price of 5,500gn was paid for a second-prizewinni­ng heifer from Jack Ramsay’s Millerston herd at Mauchline, East Ayrshire.

July 2015-born Millerston Augusta Julie, by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin and out of Millerston Augusta Clare, sold to Kenny and Sally Mair’s Muiresk herd at Kinnermit, Turriff.

Next best at 4,800gn was May 2016born Willingham Augusta Florence 2nd from A Haigh, Ashgrove Farm, Market Rasen. An AI daughter of Willingham Humperdink, she sold to HG Murray, 207 Migdale, Bonar Bridge.

Thereafter 4,600gn was paid for the female champion – April 2016-born Cairnsmore Kirsten Averell from the Landers family at Bargaly Farm, Newton Stewart.

By Chapelton Dauphin, she sold to Cherryvall­ey Farms, Crumlin, Co Antrim.

Moray Simmental breeder Iain Green was also buying Shorthorns, paying a top of 4,200gn for a heifer and 4,500gn for a bull.

In total 48 females averaged £2,890 (-£130) and 13 bulls averaged £5,121 (+£210).
