Palace to be lit up as the nation remembers war casualties
Scone Palace will be lit up in red next month as part of Remembrance events.
It is a first for the historic palace which joins other wellknown buildings across Scotland, including the Caird Hall in Dundee, in supporting the poppy appeal.
“We hope that when people see a wonderful iconic structure like Scone Palace glowing red over the Remembrance weekend they will think about the many ways they, too, can go the extra mile in their support for this year’s poppy appeal,” said Gordon Michie, head of fundraising at Poppyscotland.
“It’s fantastic to see Scotland lighting up red once again for the Scottish poppy appeal, and we’ve been blown away by the country’s support.
“Whether it’s putting a little bit more in the poppy tin, or doing something completely different to raise money, every penny helps us to offer lifechanging support so we can be there when they call for back-up.”
Scone Palace will be lit up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 3, 4 and 5, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 10, 11 and 12 from 4pm to 6pm.
The list of buildings being lit up includes Eilean Donan Castle, the Kelpies, Arbroath’s Signal Tower Museum, and Edinburgh Castle. Among the new structures to be added to the list this year are Scone Palace, Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre and St Giles’ Cathedral.
Money raised by Poppyscotland enables them to deliver support to members of the Armed Forces community in Scotland by providing funding and assistance. The charity also funds services in advice, employment, housing, mental health, mobility and respite.
