Hotel guest fined for abusive rant

-

A drunken hotel guest who told a hotel’s Portuguese night porter to “go back to Poland” has been told he is “too old” for such abusive antics.

William McCormack, 37, was a guest at the Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie’s Wellmeadow in March of this year when he launched his racist tirade.

Heavily inebriated – and apparently unimpressed with the quality of his room – the holidaymaker made his way down to reception to complain.

Perth Sheriff Court heard McCormack had been worse for wear when he turned up around 3am and demanded his money back and additional compensation.

He snapped when his demand was turned down and directed his ire at night porter Micael Pareira.

He then verbally abused Mr Pareira before telling him to “go home”.

Solicitor Cheryl McKnight said her client accepted he had a difficulty with alcohol.

Sheriff William Wood told him it was clear from his past record that he had problems with both alcohol and anger management.

He added: “You are now 37. Is it not time you learnt to handle your drink?”

McCormack replied: “In fairness, yes.”

McCormack, of Main Street, Glasgow, admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner on March 12 this year, by shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks.

He was fined £600.
