Stars come out in Kinross-shire

-

Stargazers will have a chance to see nature’s light show in a special event at a Kinross-shire nature reserve,

RSPB Scotland Loch Leven has teamed up with Dalgety Bay Astronomy Club to give people tours of the night sky.

The nature reserve is the perfect place to view the stars, due to the lack of light pollution from street lighting.

Experts from the Dalgety Bay club will be on hand with their equipment to show visitors around the planets and constellations.

RSPB Scotland community learning officer Craig Leitch said: “This is such a fascinating event and it’s great to learn about space with such a friendly and welcoming group.

“What a good excuse to take some time out to discover the wonders of the night sky.”

It is not the first time astrology experts have made the most of the dark skies of Perth and Kinross.

The region’s first ever Star Camp was held in Abernethy in September last year.

The only other such event in Scotland is held in Dumfries and Galloway.

The event next Tuesday is all-ticket with limited places available. Adult tickets are £9 (RSPB members £7), child tickets are £4 (Wildlife Explorer members £2).

To book, visit the RSPB Scotland Loch Leven Eventbrite webpage. As this event will be partly outside, participants are advised to bring warm clothes and a torch.
