Frizzell strikes late for Killie as Jambos denied at Murrayfield

HEARTS 1 KILMARNOCK 2

A dramatic late strike by substitute Adam Frizzell gave Kilmarnock a 2-1 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Hearts at Murrayfield yesterday.

Veteran Kilmarnock striker and captain Kris Boyd opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a typically clinical finish.

Isma Goncalves hit woodwork before and after the Rugby Park side’s opening goal and then levelled in the 75th minute.

But in the 86th minute, moments after striker Goncalves missed a good chance to give the home side the lead, Frizzell fired in the winner.

He had replaced Chris Burke in the 72nd minute and made the perfect impact.

It was an afternoon of frustration for the Gorgie hosts who suffered a third successive defeat for the first time this season, while Kilmarnock’s new boss Steve Clarke enjoyed his first victory in four games, albeit two of those games were draws against either side of the Old Firm.

ROSS COUNTY 3 MOTHERWELL 2

Michael Gardyne struck a double as Ross County withstood a second-half comeback from Motherwell to edge a five-goal thriller in Dingwall.

Gardyne scored either side of Davis Keillor-Dunn’s goal to put County three up at half-time at the Global Energy Stadium.

But Ryan Bowman pulled one back within three minutes of the restart and County had a nervous 11 minutes plus injurytime after Louis Moult headed home.

However, County survived some late pressure to record a 3-2 Ladbrokes Premiership victory and make it two successive home wins.

It was a second defeat in a row for the Betfred Cup finalists and County moved five points behind them in the table in eighth place.
