Kerr laments decision not to send off Hibees striker

Dundee’s Cammy Kerr insists referee John Beaton’s decision to only show Hibs’ Anthony Stokes a yellow card was a gamechanging one.

The Dark Blues suffered their fifth straight defeat at Easter Road on Saturday but with the game delicately poised at 1-1, there was a huge moment of controversy during a melee between both sets of players in the second half.

Substitute Stokes appeared to land a low blow right where it hurts on Dark Blues defender Jack Hendry but when the dust finally settled, Mr Beaton only booked the Hibs striker as well as the unfortunate victim.

To add insult to injury, Stokes then provided the assist for Simon Murray to score the Hibs winner.

All of which left Kerr once again ruing the fact that Lady Luck seems to have deserted his side at the moment.

He said: “I don’t know exactly what happened at the incident in the centre of the pitch. I don’t think Jack would have gone down unless it was something.

“We will need to look back at that and see if the club are going to do anything, I don’t know.

“But if he (Stokes) did do something, then that’s a decision that could have changed the game.

“Stokes has put the ball in the box and they have scored. Whether it’s him or someone else, we probably need to do better with dealing with that. But if he did do something, it is important we find out.

“It’s true that when the team aren’t doing well, nothing seems to go for you.”

Dundee were without first-choice keeper Scott Bain at Easter Road following an alleged bust-up with boss Neil McCann after last week’s game with Hamilton.

However, the manager would only confirm: “There is an internal discipline process. There’s no timeframe on that right now.

“He is still contracted to the club until the summer and I don’t want to go into it right now. I’ll be honest and up front when it’s done. However, it would be wrong to comment right now.”
