Thousands attended explosive extravaganzas across Perthshire this weekend.

A huge fireworks display lit up the sky above the Fair City following an evening of carnival-style fun.

Families flocked to the city’s South Inch for the annual display.

Crowds at the bonfire were kept entertained with live bands, as well as a funfair and street vendors. The Guy for this year’s event was made by children at Fairview School.

City provost Dennis Melloy was given the honour of setting off the display which could be seen across the city and beyond.

Outside Perth, families flocked to Market Park in Crieff for a display arranged by the local Round Table group.

This weekend also saw bonfire events at Blairgowrie and at Dobbie’s on Perth’s Crieff Road.

Local fire chiefs had urged residents to attend organised events, stressing that illegal bonfires tied up crews’ resources.

In Fife, up to 30,000 people crowded into Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park on Saturday night for Fife’s largest fireworks event.

The spectacular display was accompanied by some of the biggest chart hits to tie in with this year’s “Poptastic” theme.

The huge crowd was entertained by an Ariana Grande tribute act and Kingdom FM DJs before the explosive evening really got under way, creating a family-friendly party atmosphere.

Chris Foote, events manager for Dunfermline Delivers, said: “The Dunfermline fireworks display is now recognised as one of the biggest and best in Scotland with people coming from all over the country.”

It was one of a number of impressive events held across the kingdom on Saturday night, including the annual Cupar display at the town’s golf club.

Last night, Burntisland came to a standstill as thousands travelled to be involved in the festivities there.

The traditional bonfire and fireworks on the Links featured a programme of entertainment and music, as well as stalls, rides and refreshments.

Events also took place in Cardenden, Glenrothes, Newport, Elie and Crossford, with families taking advantage of the clear skies.
