Musical journey into the past created for village residents

-

A group of Perthshire children have created a new musical about the history of Bridge of Earn.

The youngsters from Dunbarney Primary and Kilgraston school worked together to write the production which they have called In the Brig.

They will perform it today at 11.15am and 2pm in the Bridge of Earn Institute and all past and present residents of the village are invited to attend.

The musical is part of a project celebrating the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017, led by local community group Brig in Bloom.

The group has raised nearly £50,000 for a project researching the history of Bridge of Earn and to create a new community garden.

Funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund enabled residents to share stories about the village’s farming life between the 1940s and 1960s and for the children to work with a professional production company to create their own musical.

Additional funding from Perth and Kinross Council, the Gannochy Trust, Lochelbank Windfarm Fund and Tesco Bags of Help will pay for the new garden. Landscaping plans include paths and seating, dry stone walling and planting with traditional native species.

A “listening post” will provide recordings of the sounds of days gone by.

Avril Fulton of Brig in Bloom said: “Everyone has helped to make this project a success.

“We are especially proud of Dunbarney Primary and Kilgraston pupils who have researched and recorded the story of our village and created a musical production.”
