SHEFFIELD STEELERS 8 DUNDEE STARS 2

Dundee suffered a nightmare repeat of their last visit to Ice Sheffield when Steelers matched their 8-2 victory.

Stars were missing six skaters and Bobby Chamberlain was drafted in as injury cover to help the short-benched visitors.

The Stars missed an early powerplay chance to establish a lead but it was the hosts who got the game’s first goal, Andreas Valdix netting in the fifth minute, and Andre Deveaux doubled the lead just 13 seconds later.

Dundee responded when Taylor Dickin pulled one back but Ben O’Connor made it 3-1 after 12 minutes.

Stars keeper Travis Fullerton pulled off a double save to keep the margin at two at the end of the first period.

Dundee started the second period with a great chance but the Steelmen continued their dominance with a fourth goal when Levi Nelson pounced on a mistake to fire high into the net.

Another mistake by the Stars allowed Andreas Jamtin to make it 5-1 just before the half-hour and Steelers added a short-handed goal through David Phillips.

Brad Day took over in goal for Sheffield at the start of the third period but was beaten by Malcolm Gould as Dundee piled on the pressure.

Omar Pacha’s hooking infraction gave the Yorkshire team a powerplay chance and Robert Dowd took advantage to make it 7-2.

Scott Aarssen completed Stars’ misery in the final minute.

Stars travel to Fife on Saturday before returning to Dundee to face the Belfast Giants on Sunday.
