McKie strike helps keep Grove a point off students

Edinburgh University have Hanna McKie to thank for preserving their fragile one-point lead over Grove Menzieshill as the national league title race hit the halfway mark.

The Scotland starlet conjured up a single strike to keep Wildcats on the back foot in a captivating battle.

At DISC Grove Menzieshill were doing their goal difference a power of good in slotting seven past Hillhead.

Jude McMullan started the rout with Jenny Walls, Sarah Jamieson and Katie Robertson also finding the net before half-time.

Erin Stevens took it to 5-0 before Jamieson and Robertson doubled their personal tallies in a onesided contest.

Vicky Carver and Lynn Jack ensured Kinross emerged with the Champ 2 bragging rights against Perthshire, and they collected a further three points when last week’s defeat to St Andrews was overturned on account of the students breaching the umpiring rules.

Dundee University III and Wanderers II drew 1-1 in a Midlands division 1 clash, while Grove III consolidate their status as runaway leaders in division 2 with a 4-1 win over St Andrews University.

Perthshire III lost 3-2 against St Andrews IV and Madras seconds beat Dundee Uni IV 6-1.
