Reign star Pennie Dublin-bound

-

Dunfermline Reign’s teenage shooting star Ewan Pennie left yesterday for Dublin to begin a new basketball career at the North Atlantic Basketball College.

The 17-year-old Pennie, a sixth year pupil at Queen Anne HS, captured the headlines when he scored a remarkable 51 points – including 14 three-pointers – in Reign’s recent home victory over Edinburgh University at St Columba’s HS.

His fame reached Ireland where coaches now hope to hone his skills for a possible college career in USA and where he will also continue his studies.

Pennie was well marked and managed only 12 points in Reign’s comfortable 91-77 home win over Stirling Knights on Saturday which keeps them in third place in the Scottish League Division One behind St Mirren and Falkirk Fury.

Craig Ferguson hit 28 points and Jake Sirrell 21 for the Fifers.

Meanwhile St Andrews University women slipped to bottom of the Scottish Women’s League first division after losing 65-42 to St Mirren in Paisley.

Glasgow University climbed above them after beating West Lothian Wolves 54-39.

Tayside Musketeers were without a game and slipped to fourth in the Premier Division behind City of Edinburgh, Glasgow Rocks and Edinburgh University.
