Hard work pays off for Stars, says Fullerton

Goaltender says Dundee outfit have shown they can beat any team in the league

- Nigel Duncan

Travis Fullerton was cut by Braehead Clan and then moved to Edinburgh Capitals before arriving at Dundee Ice Arena this season.

The 30-year-old Canadian goaltender has been outstanding as new-look Dundee Stars have battled against a long injury list to claim valuable Elite League points.

The hot-stop was again in fine form as Dundee claimed a third major scalp on Wednesday with a 3-1 home success over league champions Cardiff Devils.

It backed-up their 2-0 victory over bigspending Belfast Giants on Sunday and added a third big scalp to their credit list after also beating former league pacesetters Manchester Storm.

The two points take the Tayside team to 13 points and on level terms with Braehead Clan after 15 games.

Dundee visit Glasgow tomorrow (7pm) with confidence boosted by their first back-to-back wins in the league this season.

Clan are 10th in the 12-strong table by virtue of more regulation wins – six against Dundee’s three.

Fullerton does not know how many of his team-mates will travel to the Central Belt for the fixture.

He said: “It’s taken a lot of hard work (to beat these teams) as we have only 13 or 14 fit guys.

“Everybody needs to step-up their game if we are to have a chance in these games.

“On Wednesday we had two centres and four defencemen and we earned points which shows we have a good team here and we can beat any team in the league.”

Elsewhere, Fife Flyers make the long trip to Cardiff tomorrow (7pm), and the Welsh side will look to bounce back after Dundee snapped their impressive sixgame winning streak.

However, Fife have been going well recently and coach Todd Dutiaume and his staff continue to iron out mistakes to make them consistent winners in what is proving to be a highly-competitive league.

Edinburgh Capitals, who anchor the league with only two points from 14 games, are due to visit Manchester Storm tomorrow (7pm).
