All to play for in next stage of campaign

-

Having arrived at the half-way stage last week, tomorrow’s card mirrors the original fixtures but in reverse order, writes our women’s hockey correspondent.

Since MJV Wanderers came within a whisker of upstaging Grove Menzieshill at Disc the former champions have gone on to establish themselves as realistic title contenders, just a point adrift of Edinburgh University.

Regardless of whether the hosts can repeat their early surprise at Dalnacraig they have the comfort blanket of knowing they will kick off the second half of their campaign in the top half of the table with Edinburgh, Clydesdale Western and Wildcats bankers to hold station above them.

St Andrews welcome their Dundee University peers in Division 2 in a relegation crunch match.

Grove II have every chance of holding their own against Watsonians II in Championship League 1.

Stirling Wanderers, Kinross and St Andrews II are in action in Championship 2, with Dundee University II looking to improve their position with home and away contests against Grange II and Uddingston.

Madras and Blairgowrie are neck and neck at the top of Midland Division 1 ahead of respective clashes with Brechin and Kinross II.

Grove III have shown the Division 2 field a clean pair of heels, with Stirling University II very unlikely to change that scenario.

Meanwhile, in week three of the Midland Indoor League at Douglas Sports Centre, Dundee, strikers Lisa Biermann (8) and Flora Hammill (5) were on a hot streak to strengthen Strathallan’s Division 1 title claim as Monarchs were overwhelmed on their first appearance of the indoor season.

Anna McGregor and Stephanie Mitchell swapped first-half counters before Philippa Orr, Vicky Carver and Gail Nelson saw Kinross safely through against a young Wanderers third squad.

St Andrews turned around with a 3-1 lead over Perthshire but late goals left the result in doubt until the final whistle. Hermione Hatfield topped the student scorers with four.

Division 1: Strathallan 15 Monarchs 0, Kinross 4 Wanderers III 1.

Division 2: St Andrews University 5 Perthshire 3.
