Fife Country’s Refurbished Strathmiglo Store now offers so much more…

-

Recognised as Scotland’s oldest, (family owned) mail order company, Fife Country has recently extended and refurbished its long established Strathmiglo store. Founded in 1888 by Andrew Hogg, the store has been on its current site for well over 100 years. Originally offering hand-made footwear, crafted on the premises, the store has expanded over the intervening decades and whilst it still offers its renowned range of boots and shoes it has also developed its own, now sought after, range of outdoor and country clothing. The Strathmiglo store is now over 3000 square feet, a long way from the 300 square feet it provided at the end of the 1990’s. The recent development of around 1500 square feet houses a ladies boutique department and outdoor clothing department in addition to its existing men’s, ladies and footwear departments. As well as offering its own Fife Country and Hoggs of Fife ranges, trusted by country lovers and professionals for nearly 130 years, other complementary prestigious ‘town and country clothing brands such as Joules, Masai, Seasalt, Weird Fish, Nomads, Robell, Lily and Me , Harris Tweed, Jack Wolfskin, Harvey Parker and Gurteen are also available. In addition to the increase in shop floor space, the store now also provides a customer coffee lounge, where customers can relax and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee/ tea and catch up on the day’s news with the local ‘paper. Views of the Lomond Hills and a glimpse back into the company’s past, via the various museum pieces on display here, all add to the relaxed atmosphere. Robert Gibson, Managing Director and Great Grandson of the founder said: ‘My great grandfather started selling his hand made boots from this very store over a hundred years ago and it is wonderful to see our small family business grow into such a popular destination for so many local people. Little did Andrew Hogg know when he first sat down at his workbench, in this very shop, that over 100 years later we would still be here and offering so much more. Extending our shop floor has allowed us to offer more of our own famous Hoggs of Fife and Fife Country brands, as well as other complementary labels that you would find in many big city stores.’ As well as the new departments, both Hoggs of Fife and Fife Country continue to extend their ranges of clothing and footwear. The Hoggs of Fife brand offers all the outdoor and country wear needed to meet the demands of country life whilst the Fife Country range continues to offer high quality, casual town and country styles, including new shirt and jacket styles. Whilst the welted, British-made footwear is still a vital part of its footwear range, the most popular area is now the more casual and waterproof footwear, sourced and designed exclusively for Fife Country. When Andrew Hogg started up in business in 1888, he knew the value of keeping his customers happy by offering good value and practicality, alongside a reputation for reliability and good service. Robert added ‘Our store continues to run on these principles and, together with our loyal staff and customers, are the reasons for our ongoing success.’
