A teenager was killed and another man seriously injured in an early morning accident in Perthshire yesterday.

The A84 between Doune and Callander was closed for much of the day while the accident involving a car and a lorry was investigated.

The crash happened around 6.55am near to Cambusbeg Quarry, midway between Doune and Callander.

A 17-year-old man was travelling south driving a Vauxhall Corsa when the vehicle was involved in a collision with an HGV, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Corsa driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 52-year-old male lorry driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance was called from Scone to airlift the victim to hospital with all possible speed.

Road policing officers responded to the incident along with other emergency services including firefighters and the road was closed until after 3pm.

Diversions were in place via the A873 in both directions, adding considerably to journey lengths.

Early on in the incident a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “The road is closed in both directions and is expected to be closed for a period of time.”

This proved the case with the road remaining closed for more than eight hours.

Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Inspector Andrew Thomson from the road policing unit in Stirling said: “Tragically, this collision has resulted in a young man losing his life while another man is in hospital with serious injuries.

“We are still trying to establish exactly what happened during this incident and would urge motorists who were on the A84 at the time and saw what happened to contact police immediately.

“In particular, we would be keen to hear from anyone who has dash-cam footage which may be of significant use to this investigation.”

Those with information can contact the road policing unit at Stirling by calling 101 and quoting incident number 513.
