Lorry fire sparks traffic nightmare on M90

-

Motorists were stuck for hours in a long queue of vehicles last night when a lorry fire brought traffic to a standstill in Perthshire.

The incident caused havoc when it occurred on the M90 two miles north of Kinross near Glenfarg just before 6pm.

Police closed off the road in both directions as smoke billowed across the carriageways and warned the public to “avoid the area”.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using two hosereels.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire.

The outbreak was extinguished by 7pm and the northbound carriageway was reopened by police shortly afterwards.

However, the southbound lane remained closed for several hours more continuing the misery of drivers caught up in the chaos.

A gritter was called to clear up fuel which had spilled on to the carriageway.

A rolling roadblock was set up by police before it reopened.
