Saints legends to appear at Football Memories fundraiser

-

St Johnstone legends will take part in a fundraising event for the Football Memories scheme tomorrow.

The session will be held in the Muirton suite at McDiarmid Park and will be hosted by Saints poet-inresidence Jim McIntosh.

It will feature poetry readings, football chat and an opportunity to reminisce with a panel consisting of Henry Hall, Roddy Grant and Atholl Henderson.

All three of Scotland’s football club poets-in-residence – Stephen Watt of Dumbarton FC, Thomas Clark of Selkirk FC and Jim McIntosh of St Johnstone FC – will also take part.

Organised by St Johnstone Community Trust, the Mind The Time evening of football chat and verse is taking place in aid of the Football Memories project.

The scheme was launched two years ago and trains volunteers to spend time with people with dementia who have an interest in football, talking about teams and matches from the past in a bid to stimulate memories.

A spokesperson for the St Johnstone Community Trust said: “The people taking part have a treasure trove of memories.”

Mind the Time is an anthology of poetry published to support the work of Football Memories Scotland. It contains 100 football-related poems and various articles about the Football Memories project.

Roddy Grant had two spells with Saints, while Henry Hall played for the Perth club during the famous Willie Ormond era. Atholl Henderson’s football career began at St Johnstone in 1972.

Admission to the event, which begins at 7pm, costs £5.
