Division 2 takes centre stage as indoor action gets under way

-

The National Indoor league starts tomorrow with action in divisions 2 and 3 while Division 1 teams have to wait another week to start, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Division 2 have use of the main hall at Bells Sports Centre.

Menzieshill II won’t fear their three opponents, but may have to be at their best to come away with all nine points.

While outdoor form may not always relate to indoor capability, it may be significant the Western Wildcats are having one of their best seasons outdoor in recent years.

Uddingston and Inverleith II may not be up to the play of all in the Menzieshill club.

Wanderers II face two accomplished teams.

The teams play each other once in a league before a mishmash of playoffs which could render the league positions crucial or almost irrelevant.

Perthshire must surely be able to convert their outdoor talent. If they can defeat Aberdeen Grammar and Kelburne II the way will be clear for a promotion challenge.

Harris and Monarchs are trying to build for the future with poor or varied outdoor results to date.

The hope must be that the six-a-side format indoor will allow both to show their progress to best advantage.

Menzieshill III may well set the tone for the local teams in their first game against Monarchs.

The Midland League outdoor continues for this one further weekend in the hope that the weather will be kinder than last weekend.

Perthshire II lead the way in Division 1 closely followed by St Andrews University II and tomorrow’s opponents Wanderers III.
