Saints to thrive in December: Wright

ST JOHNSTONE: Perth boss hopes his side kick on during festive period

- ERIC NICOLSON

St Johnstone have prospered in the past when the football season gathers pace at this time of year, according to Tommy Wright – and the Perth boss is hopeful the same will be true in 2017.

Saints welcome Kilmarnock to McDiarmid Park tomorrow, with their disjointed campaign about to get very busy.

“Last weekend was probably a weekend we would have liked to play coming off the back of a good result at Hibs,” he said.

“The season has been really stop-start so far with the international breaks and then missing a weekend because of the Betfred Cup. So it almost feels like the season hasn’t really kicked in yet, but that will change in December with seven games.

“Hopefully that will be good for us because the players will look forward to having so many games packed in such a short space of time.”

“Players usually love that sort of schedule and I know in the past we have thrived on it,” continued Wright.

“This month can have a big say in how the rest of the season will go, if you have a good December you can make inroads into getting where you want to be.

“We have four of the seven games at home and we can hopefully take advantage of that.

“In the past we have been good when we’ve had a run of games like we have coming up and hopefully we will thrive on it again.”

Apart from Brian Easton, Wright has everyone available.
