A mother-of-two has died after a vehicle she was travelling in collided with a tree.

Sarah Symons, 37, who was a former pupil at Morgan Academy in Dundee, was a passenger in a car involved in a crash near New Alyth on Monday.

The Hilltown mum – who had been visiting friends in Alyth before the accident – was rushed to hospital and died as a result of her injuries two days later.

It is understood the other person in the vehicle was left shaken as a result of the incident – which happened around 10am – but was not seriously injured.

Sarah’s daughter, Daryl Symons, 21, paid tribute to her “beautiful” mum, saying she always did her best for her and her brother, Kyle.

Daryl said the birth of her son James Jr, who is now two, had given her mum a second chance at life following the death of her twin sister Janey in 2009.

Daryl added: “I had just visited my mum on Sunday evening, with James Jr, and we were having a great laugh that night.

“She had taken the death of her twin sister in 2009 really hard.

“After the birth of my son James, she said it was her second chance.

“She was a great grandmother to him and loved taking him and spoiling him.”

Daryl said her mother suffered brain injuries as a result of the crash.

She added: “Mum was taken to hospital and I spent the last two days by her side – but there was nothing that they could do for her.

“All the family got to say goodbye. It was so peaceful when she passed away.”

Daryl said her mother would give her “kids her last” and described Sarah as someone who would always help her friends.

She continued: “She was so funny and she always did her best for me and Kyle.

“She would give us her last – she was always helping all her friends.

“She was so beautiful.” A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that a 37-year-old woman sadly died in hospital on Wednesday November 29 after a road traffic collision which happened on Monday November 27 near New Alyth.”

The spokeswoman added: “A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
