Goal threat key to Bollan

Recently appointed Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan is happy with the small steps his side have been taking.

However, he knows that goals are required before a big leap can be made.

Cowdenbeath host Stenhousemuir this afternoon and Bollan, who has guided the Blue Brazil to draws with Annan and Edinburgh City, said: “Last weekend’s goalless draw in Edinburgh was a point gained in what was a really difficult game.

“Both teams were aware that they did not want to lose, so it became a case of nullifying each other. It would have been great to get the lift of a win and climb off bottom spot.

“However, we now need to do that by bettering the results Edinburgh City get.

“There was not a lot between us but, looking at it positively, we put another point on the board and it took us a further game away from the run of defeats that we had been on.”

Having scored only six times this season the former Livingston, Airdrie and Forfar manager has mapped out how his new side can progress.

He said: “It is all about building resilience just now, and going away from home and picking up a point increased our resilience.

“It is good that we are building in that area but I am aware that we need to increase our goal threat as well.

“It will come, but it is taking time,” he added.

Connor Scullion is included as a trialist for the third and final time.

Suspended David Syme and injured Joe McGovern are out.
