Take a dip in new youth group

-

Girls in Perth are being invited to take part in a new youth group which will hold its first sessions next year.

A scheme piloted by the Scottish Women’s Institutes (SWI) has led to the creation of Junior Dippers, which will offer activities for girls in primaries four to seven and from first year to third year at secondary school.

The initiative is being launched to coincide with 2018 being designated the year of young people by the Scottish Government. Leaders hope it will boost membership of the SWI in future.

A spokesperson for the SWI said: “The new group will be formed in January to teach crafting, baking, flower arranging and art with the possible introduction of sport and outings later in the year.

“The group will be named ‘Junior Dippers’ after the little bird and the fact that the girls will be dipping in and out of activities.

The aims of the group are to encourage girls to try a variety of skills under the auspices of the SWI and nurture the youngsters so that in the future they may choose to become members of the organisation.”

Classes will take place in the Hub, King Street, Perth, beginning on Saturday January 27 from 10.30am until 3pm.

Those who attend should bring a packed lunch.
