Scottish breeders lead the charge at Red Ladies Derby

Robert Graham, Bridge of Allan, achieved top prices

Scottish breeders led the charge at the Red Ladies Derby and show and sale of Limousin calves at Harrison and Hetheringt­on’s Borderway Mart in Carlisle.

Leading both the Red Ladies Derby and weaned calves sale was Robert Graham of Airthrey Kerse Dairy Farm, Bridge of Allan, Stirling.

Topping both sales at 38,000gn was January-born heifer calf Grahams Natalie, which is an ET daughter of the 24,000gn Claragh Franco, out of Grahams Coffee.

She was interbreed junior champion at the Stars of the Future Calf Show last month and sold to Christine Williams and Paul Tippetts for their Wilodge herd at Lodge Hill Farm, Shifnal, Shropshire.

Next best at 25,000gn was another entry from the Grahams herd, which stood supreme champion at the derby.

Grahams Malibu is a 17-month-old ET daughter of Ampertaine Elgin, out of Milbrook Gingerspic­e.

She sold to Nugent Estate, Portaferry House, Newtownard­s, Co Down.

The Grahams herd also sold Januarybor­n bull calf Grahams Nashville for 20,000gn to P.M. Harris Ltd, Swallows Barn, Alkmonton, Derbyshire.

He is an ET son of Claragh Franco, and out of Grahams Coffee.

Grahams Marjorie, a September-2016 born ET daughter of Ampertaine Foreman out of Poolehall Isabelle, sold for 10,000gn to R. and A. White and Son, Two Thorns Fields Farm, Hope Valley.

The next best price of 18,000gn went to Keith breeder Garry Patterson, who runs the Aultside herd at Upper Forgie.

His sale topper was 15-month-old Aultside Mystique – an ET daughter of Wilodge Cerberus, out of Spittalton Flush. She sold to P.M. Harris Ltd.

The Aultside herd also achieved 4,200gn with 13-month-old Aultside Moonshine. An ET daughter of Wilodge Cerberus, out of Spittalton Flush, she sold to Graham Morrison, Inchbruich, Cornhill, Banff.

Other leading prices included 5,600gn for March-born heifer Burnbank Natalie from D. and L. Graham, Mains of Burnbank Farm, Blairdrumm­ond. By Dinsmore Jonesy, out of Burnbank Inspire, she sold to A. Padfield, Brambles, Norfolk.

Meanwhile, Anside Pedigree Livestock Ltd, which is run by the Irvine family at Braehead Farm, Drummuir, Keith, sold to a top of 4,000gn.

The family’s top price was 13-monthold heifer Anside Mae – an AI daughter of Powerful Irish, out of Shire Freda.

She sold to J.F. Weighell, Fox Grove Farm, East Layton, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Other prices included: 5,200gn for Swalesmoor Lioness selling to T. Sinclair, Reaster Farm, Lyth, Wick; 5,000gn for Larkhill Moneypenny selling to A. Gammie, Drumforber Cottage, Laurenceki­rk; and 4,500gn for Swalesmoor Mim selling to Emslie Livestock Ltd, Kinknockie, Peterhead.

In total 43 Red Ladies heifers sold to average £4,026.09, 18 weaned bull calves averaged £3,330.83 and 42 heifer calves averaged £3,986.75.
