Nomination­s now open for annual Perth and Kinross awards

The clubs, individual­s, teams and events which made the sporting news this year will be honoured for their achievemen­ts at the annual Perth and Kinross Sports Awards.

Nomination­s are now open for the 27th awards and locals have until January 26 to put forward their suggestion­s for worthy recipients.

Organisers at Perth and Kinross Sports Council and Live Active Leisure are looking for nomination­s across 11 different categories including the prestigiou­s Perth and Kinross Sports Person of the Year whose past winners include Olympic silver medallist Stephen Milne and European Indoor Championsh­ips gold medallist Laura Muir.

The Perth and Kinross Sports Person of the Year Awards will be held at the Dewars Centre in Perth on Friday March 16, 2018, with sports broadcaste­r and Courier columnist Jim Spence hosting the evening which will celebrate the achievemen­ts of the area’s local sportspeop­le.

One of the year’s standout achievemen­ts saw British long-distance cyclist Mark Beaumont break the world record for cycling around the world, a feat which included the completion of an 18,000-mile journey in fewer than 79 days.

From local school teams to Olympians, individual coaches to volunteers, the Perth and Kinross Sports Awards recognise the huge wealth of sporting talent the region has to offer, and also celebrate the outstandin­g achievemen­ts of many of Perthshire’s local sports personalit­ies and clubs.

The person or team nominated must be a resident of Perth and Kinross at least six months prior to the event or be affiliated to a club or sport in the region.

The sport must be officially recognised by sportscotl­and. Entries will be judged on merits from the January 1 to December 31 this year.

To nominate, go to liveactive.co.uk/ Events/sports-awards or pick up a nomination form from any Live Active Leisure venue and return by January 26.

The other categories are School Team of the Year, Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, George Mortimer Lifetime Achievemen­t Award, Volunteer of the Year, Junior Sports Personalit­ies of the Year, Disability Sports Person of the Year, Young Coach of the Year, Official of the Year and Team of the Year.
