Gers defender struggles to explain Ibrox defeat

-

Bruno Alves was unable to explain Rangers’ 3-1 home defeat by St Johnstone.

Rangers went into the game on the back of four successive Ladbrokes Premiership wins.

“It was very disappointing after winning four games, especially at home. It shouldn’t happen here at our home,” the 36-yearold Portuguese defender told Rangers TV.

“I can’t find a reason because we are in good shape, we are training well, but this kind of thing happens and it is disappointing and frustrating.

“Sometimes you need to learn from your mistakes and move on.

“We gave our best but sometimes need to have more patience with the ball and try to find a better solution.

“This game was as important as the other ones so we will try to be better the next time.”

Tommy Wright’s men moved into sixth place with their third successive away win, punctuated by two home defeats which left the Northern Irishman somewhat perplexed.

He said: “We are a strange team at times. At times it flabbergasts me, this season in particular, how we can be as good as we were at Ibrox and so poor against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock at home.

“Maybe it is the fact there was more adrenaline and they were more concentrated, in front of 50,000.

“The way we set up we are difficult to beat and we will always fancy ourselves to score goals, which makes us probably a better away side than home side.

“But the home record has to improve. I know that and the players know that.”
