Players are urged to take hard look at themselves

Forfar boss Jim Weir has urged his side to become more vocal if they are to move away from the bottom of League One.

The Station Park side sit ninth, above Queen’s Park by virtue of having scored one goal more.

Three unanswered second-half goals from Stranraer ensured they moved up to third in the table, while Forfar remain perilously close to the bottom.

Manager Weir said: “It is the manner in which we lose the two goals that is really disappointing.

“We give away another penalty and we are just a quiet team.

“Players need to take responsibility and start talking on the park because I can say what I want, talk the talk, but we are joint bottom of the league for a reason.

“There is not enough responsibility being taken out there and I will take it on my shoulders.”

Stranraer were almost handed the perfect start when Jamie Bain handled Ryan Wallace’s corner in the opening 10 minutes.

However, Marc McCallum produced a stunning double save to deny Jamie Hamill from the spot and then Grant Anderson’s rebound.

The hosts did take the lead in the second half from 12 yards, though, with Bain penalised for bringing down Wallace. The striker picked himself up to squeeze the ball home.

Angus Beith then swept home Ryan Thomson’s knockdown before beating McCallum for a second time in injury time.

Weir was frustrated to see Mark Millar and Darren Whyte forced off with injuries, and called for more from his team.

He said: “We’ve got nothing to change it – we have got three 16-year-olds on the bench.

“I would rather play the under-20s at the minute in certain areas of the park because of the way of one or two, because they are offering us nothing.

“They really need to have a serious, hard look at themselves.”
