Teen admits Errol street assault

-

A student who pushed a woman to the ground in his haste to get at her boyfriend has been ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

Perth Sheriff Court was told Kyle Clark had become involved in a disagreement with a stranger while on a night out in Errol in July last year.

Matters might have ended there had the 19-year-old not met the man and his partner some time later, as he walked home.

The court was told Clark had begun to shout and swear, before challenging them to a fight and then making racially aggravated remarks that referenced their Polish heritage.

He then pushed the woman on the body, causing her to fall to the ground.

Clark, of Gas Brae in Errol, admitted assaulting the woman in St Madoes Road, Errol, on July 9 last year.

He also pled guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, aggravated by racism.

Solicitor David Sinclair said: “This offence took place as a result of Mr Clark consuming too much alcohol.

“He is not in the habit of drinking heavily, nor is he in the habit of getting into trouble.

“There had been an incident earlier in the evening and he says he pushed the woman to get to her boyfriend. She was not the target of his aggression.”

Sheriff Gillian Wood told Clark his explanation did him little credit, adding: “This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.”
