Legal firm gives helping hand to Perthshire homeless charity

-

A leading Perthshire law firm has partnered with a local homeless charity as part of a new fundraising drive.

Macnabs will support Churches Action for the Homeless (CATH), a Perth-based cause which encourages and promotes the development and delivery of projects to relieve homelessness and poor housing across the region.

During February, Macnabs will donate £25 to CATH for each successful property offer the firm is involved in.

These will include successful offers submitted by purchasers buying a new home, as well as successful offers received by sellers.

CATH began life as a soup kitchen in 1991.

It now has a busy day centre with drop-in facilities which support services users with low cost meals, laundry, washing, advice, and literacy and self-development programmes.

The charity also operates a shop and a purpose-built, eight flat-let accommodation unit.

An outreach team conducts street walks to make contact with people who might otherwise fall through the net and remain at risk.

Brian Cowie, chief executive at CATH, said: “Homelessness is a growing issue, especially in this troubled economic climate and we are extremely grateful for the support from Macnabs.

“CATH are constantly adapting to the needs of the individuals who access our services and are looking to fund certificated courses at our day centre that will help move individuals closer to employment while improving their self-esteem, confidence and motivation.”

The charity recently held a sleep-out event to raise awareness of the plight of those living on the streets of Perthshire.
