Chief constable to leave

The chief constable who oversaw the controversial Wiltshire Police child abuse inquiry into former prime minister Sir Edward Heath is to leave the force.

Mike Veale has been chosen as the preferred candidate to become the new chief constable of Cleveland Police. The announcement was made just three months after Mr Veale had to defend the handling of the £1.5 million inquiry into Sir Edward.
