Stunned employees were told that Dewars whisky bottling plant at Inveralmond in Perth is to close next year with the loss of 300 jobs. United Distillers, which says the move is part of a radical shake-up and investment programme in its whisky production throughout Scotland, has pledged every effort to find jobs elsewhere within the company for those affected. It is phasing out more than 700 jobs all over Scotland by 1995, hopefully through voluntary redundancy and early retirement.
