What has happened to Daisy Mason? That is the question this psychological thriller from Cara Hunter tries to answer. The plot sounds all too familiar, requiring a special kind of treatment to stand out in an already flooded market; an eight-year-old girl is missing and the police are called in to investigate. Hunter’s method of presentation and writing succeeds in lifting this story from a run-of-the-mill crime thriller to a gripping page-turner. The story is set in the present day, with a series of dated flashbacks to events before Daisy’s disappearance. There are press excerpts, police interviews and social media posts included in the text as the story unfolds. The result is an immersive experience with many twists and turns. 8/10
