Morale-boosting win for Pride

-

Caledonia Pride scored a 71-66 home win over Cardiff Archers to climb above the Welsh side into seventh in the Women’s BBL at Edinburgh University.

With the decibels much higher in Pleasance Sports Centre than their usual venue at Heriot-Watt University, Pride took full advantage as the game went to five minutes of overtime after being tied 63-63.

The Scots trailed for the entire game until the last minute, coming from 46-34 down in the third quarter.

Former Tayside Musketeer Hannah Robb came off the bench to score two threepointers in an eight-point 21-minute contribution.

American centre Tricia Oakes again led Pride with 21 points and 11 points while fellow American Ros Reynolds had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Scot Sarah Thomson 13 points and 11 points, including three three-pointers.

Muskies had maybe their best win of the season, beating Falkirk Fury 60-42 in the Scottish League at Grove Academy.

With usual leader Yhan Van Wees in foul trouble, Laura Hare scored 14 first-half points to take Muskies to a 25-17 lead.

Ellie Callan took over in the second half, adding 13 for a 16-point tally.

Coach Donnie MacDonald also picked out Kat Martin for her defence.

Meanwhile, Dunfermline Reign beat Pleasance 99-68 at St Columba’s HS in the men’s league.
