We stand on the cusp of a cultural revolution in the city

So now we know. V&A Dundee will open its doors to the public on September 15. In just a few short months Dundee will be able to boast one of the finest design museums anywhere in the world.

Anyone making such a statement just a few years ago may have been subjected to a few raised eyebrows, possibly even outright mockery.

Yet this is the new reality for Dundee.

We stand on the cusp of a cultural revolution in the city. Those behind the project to bring the V&A to Dundee deserve huge credit.

In the past, Dundee might have been overlooked for such a project, but the vision and confidence of the city and all those who live and work within its boundaries has at last been recognised.

Excitement will build considerably between now and the opening date, but much work remains to be done if we are to truly capitalise on the unique opportunities that will arise in the coming years.

A laser-like focus on ensuring the full potential of the project is realised must be retained.

As we report today, this is indeed the dawn of the new era. Of course the benefits will not be confined merely to Dundee.

Fife, the wider Tayside region and Scotland as a whole all have much to gain.
